Prof Gyamo on TV3’s Keypoints stated he hoped the OSP brouhaha with Ken Ofori Atta is borne out of patriotism and not to impress the Mahama government to keep his position or personal vendetta for the former minister.

Speaking on TV3 Prof Gyampo stated, “I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta but out of patriotism”

“it is important to find out if Mr Ofori-Atta is not sick. Because being sick is not an easy matter,” he stated.

“And the OSP, they have in the past started so dramatically but, in the end, we saw nothing. Look at the Cecilia Dapaah case,” he added.

The OSP in their statement noted that the former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta is under investigation for corruption and corruption-related offences.

The OSP in it statement stated, “The attention of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been drawn to a comment made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Ransford Gyampo (PhD) suggesting that the OSP’s investigation of suspect Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori- Atta is born out of a personal vendetta. The OSP wishes to place or record that its actions involving the former Finance Minister are based on stated allegations of corruption and corruption related offences particularly abuse of office for profit, including the multiple- year contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

Incidentally, the said CEO called and sent messages to the Office in respect of SML while officers of the OSP and National Security were still conducting a legal search of SML’s premises.

While the OSP welcomes criticism of its work, it cautions public officials to refrain from interfering–whether directly or through unfounded public statements-with ongoing investigations. Such actions have the potential to undermine the fight against corruption”, they added.
