The Office of the Special Prosecutor has revealed it has triggered an INTERPOL Red Notice for the extradition of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana.
Kissi Agyebeng in a press conference asserted that Ken Ofori-Atta is once again a wanted and a fugitive of justice.
The Special Prosecutor revealed that he has triggered a process for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice, potentially subjecting Ken Ofori-Atta, to international arrest and extradition.
Speaking to the media on Monday, June 2, Kissi Agyebeng stated, “About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice for the location and provisional arrest of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta in whichever jurisdiction, pending extradition or his surrender”.
The Special Prosecutor has rejected the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, Ken Ofori-Atta must present himself physically to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Kissi Agyebeng stated, “This office has always requested his attendance, and we have indicated clearly to him that we are unwilling to waive it. If we were amenable to taking any statement from Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia, we would have done so in February, and not waited till June 2, 2025.
“We want him here physically, and we insist on it. A suspect in a criminal investigation does not pick and choose how the investigative body conducts its investigations and the methods suitable to him and his convenience. We will not countenance this conduct, not in this case”, he added.
It will be recalled the OSP accused him of causing financial loss to the state in several dealings including the construction of the famous National Cathedral and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA’s) – Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao and Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances.
Meanwhile, a legal team member for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Frank Davies has quizzed why it is so difficult for people to understand his client is sick.
According to Frank Davies, the former minister is currently undergoing treatment in the United States.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, June 2, Frank Davies stated, “If I tell you that I will come and see you tomorrow, and just on the brink of tonight, I suffer a casualty, would you see me tomorrow? Why should it be so difficult for people to understand that the person involved has a health challenge?
This was known long before these charges were prepared against him; who didn’t know that Ken was not well?” Mr Davies queried.
