Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South Member of Parliament and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee has accused the John Mahama-led NDC government of Scamming Ghanaians with the introduction Dumsor levy.
The lawmaker noted that the NDC said they had abolished Dumsor but turned to impose a hefty Dumsor Levy on Ghanaians before they could keep our lights on.
In a post on X, Rev Ntim Fordjour, stated, “On E-Levy, you paid Ghc10 on every Ghc1,000 Momo you sent, yet we all agreed it needed to be abolished.
On D-Levy, you’ll pay Ghc83 on every Ghc1,000 of fuel you buy.
Was D-Levy part of NDC’s manifesto? Would you have voted for NDC if they promised you that you’ll pay Ghc83 on every Ghc1,000 fuel you buy?”
He added, “Drivers and Okada riders will definitely pass this on to passengers. Private car users will be worse off. In the end, our citizens will be ripped off big time, for the votes they cast for NDC. People were unhappy with Ghc10 levy on Ghc1,000 but now will be extremely frustrated having to pay Ghc83 levy on every Ghc1,000 fuel.
NDC has disingenuously SCAMMED Ghana with D-Levy! NDC’s Dumsor Levy is far worse than E-Levy that was demonized.
NDC said they had abolished Dumsor, infact they denied the prevalence of Dumsor when Ghanaians demanded load shedding schedule (Dumsor time-table). Turns out they need to impose hefty Dumsor Levy on Ghanaians before they could keep our lights on”, Ntim Fordjour wrote.
However, President John Dramani Mahama has stated the energy sector levy won’t increase fuel prices.
John Mahama revealed that the ₵1 ‘dumsor levy’ was a difficult but necessary decision.
He asserted that the ₵1 energy sector levy won’t result in an increase in fuel prices.
According to John Mahama, Ghana must take advantage of recent gains created by appreciation in the value to accelerate solutions to our energy sector challenges.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Tuesday during the presentation of the final report of the National Economic Dialogue 2025, John Mahama stated, “This was not a decision we took lightly. Though difficult, it is necessary and justifiable.”
He added, “ We must take advantage of recent gains created by appreciation in the value of our currency to accelerate the solution to our energy sector challenges”.
In addition, John Abdulai Jinapor the Minister of Energy and Green Transition has stated that the newly introduced Energy Sector Levy is not to pay the Energy Sector’s legacy debts.
According to the Energy minister, it is to pay for liquid fuel.
He revealed that the cost of liquid fuel is not included in the electricity tariff structure, which poses financing challenges to the government.
