Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned government appointees to refrain from corruption.
According to Asiedu Nketiah, a criminal remains a criminal whether he is NDC or NPP.
He asserted that the reset agenda is not only about punishing political opponents found culpable of corruption but also appointees of the current government who engage in the same.
Speaking at the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising held at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah stated, “Even as we are dealing with the excesses of the previous administration, we must send a strong signal to our own party functionaries and our own appointees that whatever will be happening to the appointees of the previous government will very soon be happening to our own appointees who engage in the same misconduct.”
“Ghanaians will take us seriously that we are indeed resetting a nation to the path of truth, accountability and on to the path progress”, he added.
Asiedu Nketiah asserted, “It is about resetting the country; it is about holding people accountable for a mandate that the population has given them.
It is about holding people to account for the looting of our state resources, and we shouldn’t allow political parties to be the refuge for Criminals. A criminal remains a criminal whether he is NDC or NPP”.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has boldly reiterated that he is not going to influence any anti-corruption agencies to drop investigations against his appointees.
According to John Mahama, he is not going to interfere in the Attorney General and Minister of Justice investigation.
John Mahama revealed that 33 corruption cases are being prepared against Akufo-Addo appointees.
According to John Mahama, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice is currently building 33 cases of corruption and related offences against the erstwhile government appointees.
He revealed that the cases were uncovered under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team he established after the 2024 election.
Speaking during a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption at the Jubilee House President Mahama stated, “We set up the ORAL Committee, and they have identified 33 cases, which were handed over to the Attorney General. We have created special investigative teams to investigate each of them.
“Some of them have found a lot of evidence of the procurement of properties with illicit wealth. With many of them, they are just at the point of beginning prosecution. Some have also started the prosecution, and others are being lined up,” he stated.
He added, “I have told the public and assured my Attorney General and Minister of Justice that I am not going to interfere in their work.
“If the anti-corruption agencies go after anybody, I am not going to try and influence them to drop any investigation against anybody, including those who served in the previous regime, many cases of whom we are currently investigating,” President Mahama said.
