The Minority in Parliament has demanded the immediate reinstatement of dismissed Bank of Ghana (BoG) staff.
At a press conference on Tuesday, 24 June, the minority described the mass dismissal of over 100 employees of the Bank of Ghana as unlawful and morally unacceptable.
According to the minority, the terminations were carried out without due process, prior consultation, or any justifiable cause.
The minority asserted that the dismissed employees were legally recruited, duly vetted, and had been contributing meaningfully to national development.
“This directive is wholly unconstitutional and unlawful. No such directive has legal authority, and institutions must not act on political whims”, the Minority asserted.
The Minority has therefore called for the immediate reinstatement of the affected workers.
They noted that, even if the dismissals were based on redundancy, the Bank of Ghana failed to meet legal obligations.
“Probation is not a licence for arbitrary or unjustified termination,” they argued.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has justified the termination of over 100 staff hired in 2024.
According to the Bank of Ghana, the staff whose contracts had been terminated were recruited in December 2024.
The BoG further emphasised that the staff did not meet the required standards after completing their probationary period.
The information gathered reveals that over a hundred Bank of Ghana (BoG) staff hired in 2024 have been dismissed for not completing their six-month probation.
The termination letter was issued on June 19, 2025.
The move follows a directive to cancel post-December 7, 2024, appointments, raising concerns about job security and political interference in public service hiring.
A letter dated February 10, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
Following the Chief of Staff’s directive issued on February 10, 2025, State institutions have acted in compliance, leading to widespread dismissals of appointments.
