Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister in Charge of Government Communications has stated that President John Dramani Mahama has no to instruct security agencies not to hold people accountable.
He asserted that John Mahama could not intervene in the ongoing trials involving certain members of the former Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on June 2, 2025, Felix Kwakye stated, “President Mahama doesn’t have to give any approval for the ongoing trials. The President has no power to instruct security agencies not to hold people accountable when they are found to have broken the law.
“Maybe when someone is jailed, he can intervene on humanitarian grounds by granting a pardon. But as long as the legal process is ongoing, he cannot interfere, doing so would be a violation of the country’s laws. It is only a court that can determine guilt or innocence,” he said.
Ofosu Kwakye cited that during the NPP administration, members of the NDC were also prosecuted but did not attempt to obstruct justice.
He added, “When Ato Forson was invited for questioning, did anyone go there? When Dr Opuni, Collins Dauda, and Gyakye Quayson were invited, did people mobilize at those places?
“Due process was followed. We cannot accept a situation where people simply gather and make noise at a state facility and expect suspects to be released. That undermines the rule of law.”
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has boldly reiterated that he is not going to influence any anti-corruption agencies to drop investigations against his appointees.
According to John Mahama, he is not going to interfere in the Attorney General and Minister of Justice investigation.
Speaking during a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption at the Jubilee House President Mahama stated, “We set up the ORAL Committee, and they have identified 33 cases, which were handed over to the Attorney General. We have created special investigative teams to investigate each of them.
“Some of them have found a lot of evidence of the procurement of properties with illicit wealth. With many of them, they are just at the point of beginning prosecution. Some have also started the prosecution, and others are being lined up,” he stated.
He added, “I have told the public and assured my Attorney General and Minister of Justice that I am not going to interfere in their work.
“If the anti-corruption agencies go after anybody, I am not going to try and influence them to drop any investigation against anybody, including those who served in the previous regime, many cases of whom we are currently investigating,” President Mahama said.
