Samuel Atta Akyea a former member of parliament for Akim Abuakwa South has waded into the former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s brouhaha with the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
According to Samuel Atta Akyea, Ken Ofori-Atta is genuinely unwell and asserted that cancer is a serious illness.
He further claimed Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana once he recovers.
Samuel Atta Akyea is quoted by Kasapa FM to have stated, “Ken Ofori-Atta is genuinely unwell. Cancer is a serious illness, and once he recovers, he will return to Ghana”.
In a related story, the Human Rights Court dismissed an application filed by Ken Ofori-Atta.
Ken Ofori Atta had sought to stop the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from redeclaring him as wanted.
In a post by the Office of the Special Prosecutor page on X stated, “The Human Rights Court has dismissed an application by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, who sought to prevent the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from declaring him wanted ahead of his scheduled appearance on 2 June 2025.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who is under multiple investigations by the OSP and other state agencies relating to his tenure in office, had asked the court to restrain the OSP from issuing a “wanted” notice and from circulating his image online.
He is currently the subject of an active Interpol Red Notice, and extradition proceedings have begun with the relevant authorities to secure his return to Ghana.
The dismissed application forms part of a series of civil suits he has filed against the OSP and the Republic, either to halt its operations or challenge the issuance of arrest warrants in the ongoing probes”, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Prof Mrs Angela Ofori-Atta, the wife of Ken Ofori-Atta has stated her husband would require about 3 months to recover fully.
The wife of Ken Ofori-Atta on June 16 revealed that his surgery was successful.
According to Mrs Angela Ofori-Atta, Ken Ofori Atta had a successful surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
On Monday, June 16 a statement issued by Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta revealed a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy took place on Friday, June 13, and lasted over four hours.
She stated, “The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime”.
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she noted.
She added, “Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors”.
