A viral video has surfaced of a woman who covered her hand after shaking hands with the Asantehene for the first time, expressing her overwhelming excitement.
According to the woman, she will preserve the divine touch with her handkerchief and vowed not to use it for the rest of the week not even to eat.
Speaking shortly after the interaction in a video posted on social media platform X, she revealed, “Since I was born, I have never shaken hands with Otumfuo until today. I always bow when I come before him,”
“But today, Nana Apinkra told him that wherever the Kotoko team goes, I follow it. Otumfuo thanked me and shook my hand”, she added visibly showing her emotions.
She added, “Today, I am not going to eat with this hand. I’m tying it with a handkerchief. It is a blessing for me to shake the hand of Otumfuo”.
“If someone is gifting money, the person should put it in my pocket and not my hand. I am grateful to you Otumfuo. May the Almighty God bless you and grant your heart desires.”
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have expressed their opinion by saying, “Some of these things don’t get angry at her o. When they say “Asante y3 Oman” (Asante is a Nation) these are some basic traits. Those Who have lived in Kumasi will testify it’s just a part of them”.
“This is what I have realised. People get triggered anytime anyone shows how proud he or she is to be an Ashanti.
There is nothing wrong with it okay. The culture will make u feel proud of yourself.
Just be proud of your culture that one too u can’t do it in peace”, another stated.
One more user stated, “Insulting someone for showing great enthusiasm and appreciation for her king isn’t a bad thing. The Europeans does worse when they meet their celebrities yet “some foolish” people from other regions will come here and criticise the action. You people should start bathing”.
