A political aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto has waded in on brouhaha regarding the former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Kofi Tonto, Ken Ofori-Atta must be dealt with if found to have committed a crime.
Kofi Tonto is quoted by Metro TV, to have stated, “If Ken Ofori-Atta has committed a crime, he must be dealt with just like any other Ghanaian cited in corrupt practices”.
The NPP man had earlier declared that Kissi Agyebeng and his office were wasting public resources.
According to Kofi Tonto, the OSP should proceed to court and stop the public press conferences in their dealings with Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Kofi Tonto stated, “The Office of the Special Prosecutor is wasting public resources. If they truly have evidence against Ken Ofori-Atta, they should have gone to court long ago instead of playing to the gallery.”
“If you have a solid case, go to court. You don’t need him in Ghana to start the legal process. This constant media trial without substance is only eroding public trust and wasting taxpayers’ money”, Tonto insisted.
It will be recalled the OSP accused him of causing financial loss to the state in several dealings including the construction of the famous National Cathedral and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA’s) – Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao and Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances.
Meanwhile, the family of Ghana’s former finance minister Ken Ofori Atta has stated he will be vindicated for the entire nation to see.
According to the family, they are confident that Mr Ofori-Atta’s rights will be restored when these investigations are completed.
On Monday, June 9, in a statement released by the family, they condemned the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice and declared the OSP’s actions as violations of due process, constitutional rights, and international law.
