Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team has boldly stated he would be very surprised if the former Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not chosen to lead the NPP in the 2028 polls.
According to Hamza Suhuyini, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the NPP’s strongest contender for leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Hamza Suhuyini stated, “Whatever way you look at it, the initiative to organise an early congress is simply driven by the motivation to control, not an opportunity to rebuild and ensure transformation in the politics of the NPP.
And that is why I feel that this party under this current leadership seems to be doing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia so much harm,” he stated.
He remarked, “From where I sit, you can turn the As up or down, whether congress is held today or a year from now, I know that Dr. Bawumia is in a better position to lead the NPP than any of the contenders, in all honesty”.
“He must learn useful lessons. He must not allow these guys to destroy the responsibility that the party will entrust to him to reform. And this is harmless advice to him,” Suhuyini added that he would be “hugely surprised” if Bawumia is not chosen to lead the party into the 2028 polls.
His comments come following Justin Frimpong Koduah, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revealing that the party will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
According to Justin Frimpong Koduah, the National Council adopted a proposal from the constitution review committee.
The General Secretary stated, “The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026.
That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place,” he stated.
Joseph Osei Owusu, a former Bekwai MP will chair a nine-member committee to plan the July 2025 national delegates conference.
