Gary Nimako, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Legal Affairs has stated he is not going to talk to lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi anymore.
According to Gary Nimako, he has blocked Andy Appiah-Kubi on his phone.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Gary Nimako stated, “I spoke with him before applying, and he later came out to say the process had been frustrated, which was unfair. How do you throw this in the air? It is not right and fair.”
“I had spoken to him prior to filing, then you later say you are not aware. I have blocked his number because if I can have a meeting with you in confidence and you act this way in public, then it means I cannot talk to you again—so I have blocked his number,” he stated.
His comments come after Andy Appiah-Kubi a lawyer for Chairman Wontumi threw him under the bus regarding Wontumi’s detention.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO following a visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Tuesday, May 27 shortly after leaving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
He was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, however, his legal team on Wednesday had not fully satisfied the conditions required to secure his release.
The Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo has withdrawn the application filed to vary the bail conditions of Bernard Antwi Boasiko, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
On 30 May 2025, the motion was filed at the High Court in Accra and was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, 3 June.
However, the legal team formally withdrew the application seeking the review today Monday 2 June.
This comes after Wontumi’s legal team on Friday, May 30 revealed that despite meeting the bail conditions, Wontumi’s release has been stalled due to a fresh legal application filed earlier in the day.
He explained, “My client is not going home tonight. We encountered a challenge that needs to be addressed before we can move forward”.
Unknown to me, an application was filed to frustrate what we are doing. We will deal with it on Monday. It is an application that was not filed by me, but it has prohibited his release.
We encountered some difficulties which will be sorted on Monday, then we will have a fresh slate to operate, and work towards the desired result,” Appiah-Kubi noted.
Chairman Wontumi has since been released from EOCO custody after meeting his bail conditions yesterday June 2, 2025.
