The Director of Special Operations at the National Security, Richard Jakpa has bragged about his shooting prowess labelling himself as a marksman.
According to Richard Jakpa, when he shoots t one bullet one life.
He revealed that his passion is Weapon handling or anything that has to do with weapons.
Speaking in an interview on JOY NEWS Richard Jakpa detailed, “Weapon handling or anything that has to do with weapons is my passion. I am a marksman, when I shoot is one bullet for one life. I hardly miss my shots, so the military was from my grandfather who was in the Second World War. My father was in the military, and my great-great-great-grandfather was also a warrior.
So for us battles, war, and security, it is in our DNA. They were victimizing me in the military because of the baggage my father left in the military when he was defending the revolution for the late former president Jerry John Rawlings and in doing that you will step on many toes of senior officers”.
He further narrated his early military days and how he was seen as a spy by senior officers.
Richard Jakpa narrated, “When I entered the military the late president requested specifically, that I should be posted to work at the Gonja barracks which has never happened in the military. The senior officer took it as this was a spy he was an informant Jerry had put there to do what his father was doing.
I became like an endangered species in the officer call, the senior officers were uncomfortable and they were dealing with me ruthlessly. Everything of mine they were never happy about it”.
The Director of Special Operations at the National Security further detailed, “In the military exams, we got two types of exams, we got the practical and the written. The practical exams are a team and one has to be on the field to demonstrate practically. Everybody is there you are delivering you are putting your plan into combat, and the instructors are there it is not only one person, they are all marking and scoring.
That place where one person cannot fail you, I went there once I passed, the theory there are different subjects and for each subject, you have a senior officer in charge, he sets his questions and prepares his marking scheme when the command approves he will go and mark and bring the results. So he can do whatever he wants to do in that his small corner. Each time I wrote two papers, in the military, if you fail two papers you have to rewrite all the papers you have passed the next year.
That didn’t frustrate me because that was the standard in the military. Each time I write two I will fail. So I decided that if you keep victimizing me I will prove you wrong. I went to Sierra Leon on a peacekeeping and they paid me thousands of dollars so I transferred it to the US and started an international private investigation course for two years, from 2004 to 2006”, he added.
Meanwhile, Richard Jakpa was dishonourably discharged from the Ghana Armed Forces based on persistent offences and acts of misconduct in 2007.
However, Richard Jakpa has vehemently denied ever seeing the supposed letter confirming his dismissal from the military since he left the service 17 years ago.
