Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has announced the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is set to recruit 12,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years.
According to him, the nationwide enlistment programme targeted at improving the country’s security and addressing youth unemployment.
In a Facebook post, Edward Omane Boamah revealed that President Mahama has approved the initiative.
Edward Omane Boamah in his post stated, “This nationwide exercise has been approved by President John Mahama. Get ready for a career of service and pride. Make sure you’re medically fit before applying, as the training is intense”.
“I worked at the 37 Military Hospital for five years. People have died during military training. You’ll be expected to abandon all forms of normal life”, he cautioned.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the news by saying, “That’s not enough—the target should be set at 100,000. Nigeria has a total force of about 232,000 compared to Ghana’s 15,500. Recruitment should be done professionally by targeting universities and high schools, not just sports stadiums”.
“I’ve bought forms 3 times still didn’t get a chance all because somebody asks for ghs10k in order to get the chance”, another stated.
A netizen stated, “That’s great news! I hope they also provide the young recruits with proper apartments, not just cramped cubicles or ponchos for sleeping at Burma camp”.
One more user stated, “Protocol zalaaa. The portal for recruitment will opened ones and the narration will be that more people applied and so they will clear the backlogs. That is where the protocol go occur”.
