Speaking on CITI Eyewitness News Sammi Awuku stated, “I believe Dr. Bawumia presents us with a very good opportunity to win 2028”

“Some of us are of the unshaken belief that the difficulties we faced as a government over the last four years — the post-COVID era, economies around the world in turmoil, the global shocks and all — Dr. Bawumia did a good job.”

Awuku added, “He stood in the gap for the NPP, and I believe in his personal achievement and records, his character, and the strength of his character, and the integrity that he also has”.

Meanwhile, the leader of the group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong has stated that 60 NPP MPs of their own volition as nobody pressured them to endorse Dr Bawumia.

According to Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, efforts are being made to persuade other MPs yet to publicly declare their support.

Speaking after the meeting with Dr Bawumia, Ampratwum-Sarpong detailed, “The processes are about to commence to select our leadership in the party, and one of the key ones is the flagbearership, and that is where the focus is. Our MPs the number being 88  are the political front of the party when we are in opposition. So that responsibility has just come upon us, and we have to take the mantle and do what is right.”

“…MPs on their volition have made their own decisions and decided to align with A, B, C, and in Parliament as at today, 60 of the 88 have indicated and declared that they want to side with their colleagues to champion the cause of Dr Bawumia to win the flagbearership and to lead the party into the elections in 2028. So it is a voluntary thing, nobody was pressured.”

“It was a very happy visit, it was a courtesy call and it was a call to declare support for me, and I am so happy. In terms of the group that have declared support for me from Parliament, it now amounts to just over 60 MPs — and you know we have 88 MPs — and so that tells you that a very significant number of MPs have declared their support for me.

“I just want to use this opportunity to thank all of them… I believe this is going to be very important… I am very happy for what they have done today.”
