The sector minister noted that mobile data prices would be adjusted in the coming weeks.

Sam George asserted that his ministry would not act on sentiment but instead would follow the roadmap set by the 23-member Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee.

Speaking to the media, Sam George stated, “If you want me to move from network A, because you’ve made them more expensive, is network B going to give me the quality of service I want?”

If you do not impose a responsibility on network B to invest to give me that network then you have punished the customer of network A by raising the price but not giving them a viable option.

We are looking at price, value and quality the ministry is going to take steps on all three one at a time”, he added.

He added, “I believe we should see in a matter of weeks less than a month we should see some movement in value, and then in subsequent weeks we will make another move on price and subsequent to that we will make another move on quality.

So, I mean, when we talk value, if today you were getting, say, 100 gig for a certain price, value would mean that you could get more than 100 gig at the same price,” Mr George explained.

Meanwhile, had earlier asserted that he promised Ghanaians by the end of this year data prices would be reduced.

According to Sam George, people think data costs must be cheaper with just the stroke of a pen.

He further called on Ghanaians to trust the process as he had set up a committee whose mandate in 14 days was to develop a roadmap that would lead to a drop in the prices of data.

Sam George some weeks ago was trending on X, with netizens mounting pressure on him to remove the over 39% in tariffs on every data purchase which will in turn reduce data costs.
