Renowned Ghanaian media personality and outspoken online campaigner, Bridget Otoo, has officially been appointed as a presidential staffer by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

Her appointment comes after months of public speculation and online chatter, with many Ghanaians questioning the delay—especially given her vocal and visible support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama during the 2024 election campaign. Bridget’s name repeatedly trended on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with some users humorously referring to her case as a “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” scenario.

However, the seasoned broadcaster’s years of experience in media and communications make her an ideal fit for the role. With over a decade of dedication and impact in the industry, her professionalism and resilience have long been recognized.

Taking to social media to confirm the news, Bridget expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama for their continued support and encouragement. She also acknowledged the support of Mrs. Joyce Bawa Mogtari (Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President), Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe, and her immediate supervisor, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Fosu.

“I am deeply honoured to be considered for a role in helping shape this government’s mandate,” she shared. “This appointment means the world to me, especially after the difficult journey I’ve been through.”

Bridget addressed the delay in her appointment, revealing that a serious health issue had kept her from assuming any formal duties earlier. What was intended to be a routine health checkup, she explained, led to weeks of hospitalization.

“After the hard-fought campaign, I had always pictured the celebration that would follow our victory,” she wrote. “But fate had other plans. I watched our victory lap from a hospital bed while my husband Van and his cousin Richard kept me updated with live reports that rivaled the best newsrooms.”

In May 2025, Bridget officially resigned from her role as news anchor and presenter at Metro TV, marking the end of her three-year stint with the station. She joined Metro TV in 2021 after stepping away from the spotlight in 2017, following her departure from Media General.

Outside journalism, Bridget ventured into the cement business and has since become a successful entrepreneur. Despite her shift into business, she has remained a strong voice in Ghana’s national discourse, frequently lending her platform to fight misinformation and support social and political change.

With her appointment now official, Bridget Otoo has pledged to serve diligently and prove herself worthy of the honour. Ghanaians can expect her characteristic energy, boldness, and dedication as she takes on this new chapter in public service.

She also extended her thanks to Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Mrs. Joyce Bawa Mogtari; Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Xoese Dogbe; and her immediate superior, Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, for their unwavering support.

Bridget Otoo has assured the general public of her commitment to proving herself worthy of the honour bestowed upon her during her tenure of service.

Many users online congratulated Bridget on her current appointment, but others wondered why she was not a part of the government’s team after coming into office in January. Bridget addressed that in her statement, indicating that she had been unwell and had spent several weeks at the hospital.

“After the preceding hard years supporting and campaigning for His Excellency, back when some thought it was too “riskey” to do so, I had always pictured the celebration and fan fare that would follow the victory in grand style but fate it seemed, had other plans and events would instead play out with me watching our victory lap from a hospital bed after what was meant to be a routine health checkup turned into a hospital admission spanning weeks,” she wrote.

She further added: “My silver lining however was that I could experience it vicariously through my husband, Van, and his cousin Richard, who were in attendance giving me live detailed updates that would rival the best news channels.”

“So with all the faith and trust I have in the NDC government, I was deeply honoured to be considered for a role in helping shape its mandate, once I was back on my feet.”

In May this year, Bridget stepped away from her role as a news anchor and presenter for Accra-based television station, Metro TV. She resigned three years after joining the reputable media house in 2021, following a hiatus from television.

Prior to her break from the screen, she worked with Media General and resigned in 2017. During her time off, she ventured into the manufacturing industry and is now a businesswoman who sells cement on a large scale.

The vociferous media practitioner has also actively participated in national discourse, contributing to conversations around Ghana’s socio-economic and political developments.

Her bold opinions and commentary have played a key role in combatting misinformation and disinformation propagated by individuals seeking to undermine the ruling government.
