Kwasi Kwarteng the former Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education and now a member of the Kennedy Agyapong team, has fired shots at the Dr Bawumia camp.
According to Kwasi Kwarteng, Bawumia’s camp which had 137 MPs’ support is now struggling to convince as they have 60 MPs.
He further asserted that all government appointees, and party executives at every level supported Bawumia in his bid to become the NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
In a social media post on X, Kwasi Kwarteng stated, “ Isn’t it interesting that the same camp which once had total support from 137 MPs, all government appointees, and party executives at every level is now struggling to convince us they have over 60 MPs based on a video that shows barely 25 people in the room?
Time changes ampa”, he added.
His comment comes on the heels of over Sixty New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have endorsed the former vice president and 2024 presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to reports, some of the MPs paid a courtesy call to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to pledge their support.
The MPs revealed that over sixty out of the NPP’s Eighty-eight MPs have endorsed the former vice president.
Speaking to the media after the close door meeting Dr Bawumia stated, “This morning I had a visit, from our members of parliament, and it was a very happy visit a courtesy call and a call to declare support for me I am so happy for the group that has declared support for me from parliament.
They amount to just over 60 members and you know we have 88 members of parliament, so it is very significant that members of parliament have declared support for me, I just want to use this opportunity to thank all of them”.
Dr Bawumia further added, “I believe this is going to be very important because the members of parliament as you know control the constituencies to a large extent and I am very happy about exactly what they have done today. It is a strong show of support and I thank them and I thank God for this strong show of support. There is a lot of hard work to be done so that we can help the party and help the country”.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) revealed that the party will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
The main front runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
