Netizens on the social media page X have called on the John Mahama-led government to abandon the Agenda 111 hospital started under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government.

The netizens’ comments come on the back of Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, who has announced that the John Mahama government will construct 600 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the country by the end of 2025.

According to Felix Kwakye, the move is to expand access to primary healthcare.

He revealed that two new CHPS compounds will be constructed in each district.

Felix Kwakye stated, “Each district is required to construct two new CHPS compounds this year. Altogether, that amounts to about 600 CHPS compounds in 2025 alone.

If we sustain this momentum, we could exceed 2,000 CHPS compounds over the next four years,” he stated.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the news by saying, “Agenda 111 hospitals should not be neglected to rot”.

“CHPS is outdated. Agenda 111 is in every district. Wouldn’t it make sense to complete them? They wouldn’t because they want to line the pockets of cronies and party financiers. Smh”.

“The people that said Agenda 111 was unnecessary and that we should’ve built one big hospital in Accra or renovate an already existing hospital are happy about CHPS compound in 2025?

Why not complete the major Agenda 111 hospital instead of a district building 2 CHPS compound?” another stated.

One more Ghanaian added, “We raised this concern, but they didn’t listen. The moment Akandoh began spreading misinformation about Agenda 111, it became clear they had no intention of continuing it. Why shift focus to CHPS compounds when Agenda 111 projects can still be maintained and completed?”.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, has revealed that the Mahama government need to cough up not less than $9 million to fully operationalise the Bokoro Agenda 111 Hospital.

President John Dramani Mahama has also urged the international community to collaborate with his government in completing stalled Agenda 111 hospital projects.

Speaking at a credential ceremony for newly appointed ambassadors, he explained that Ghana faces significant challenges in its healthcare system.

He noted that the previous government initiated a healthcare project to build over a hundred hospitals, but despite the large financial investment, none of the hospitals were operationalized.
