Eight Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates were denied access to write exams at the Tamale Secondary School (Tamasco) examination centre.
According to reports, the eight BECE candidates were involved in a road accident on their way to write Tuesday’s paper 5km from the exam site.
The information gathered suggests a tricycle transporting the students collided with a motorbike carrying a man and his wife leading to the motorcyclist dying on the spot, while his wife and the eight students sustained various degrees of injuries.
Mr Abdulai Mohammed, the supervisor accompanying the candidates stated, “ “We got another means to carry them to the Tamale West Hospital, but because of the ongoing strike, it took a while before they managed to get two nurses and one doctor to attend to them”.
“When we got to the centre, they had finished the first paper, and the students were coming out. We isolated our students so they could write, but unfortunately, they were denied”, Mr Abdulai Mohammed added.
He added the denial left the students devastated, “ Some of the students started collapsing upon hearing the news. As we speak, they have been rushed to the hospital again,” he added.
Meanwhile, 603,328 candidates across the country are set to sit the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled from Wednesday, June 11, to Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The 297,250 males and 306,078 females are the first batch of students seeking to benefit from the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Policy under the new government.
