Osman Ayariga, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority has mocked the former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his economic management team.
The National Youth Authority CEO noted that what Dr Bawumia and his economic management team couldn’t do, the finance minister Ato Forson has in five months.
His comments come on the back of the recent Cedi appreciation to the major currency globally particularly the dollar.
Speaking on GHONE TV, Osman Ayariga detailed, “Bawumia should be apologizing to us due to his inability to even manage a currency and be congratulating the likes of Ato Forson. You remember Bawumia saying the strong economic management team Professor John Baffour, Alan Kyeremanteng, strong economic management team, stating that what a seven-member committee headed by Dr Baffour couldn’t do, one man Ato Forson has done within five, six months.”
“He’s not apologizing because he regrets what happened. He’s doing this to create a narrative that he’s a changed man but the truth is, he’s trying to deceive the NPP and Ghanaians,” Ayariga stressed.
Osman Ayaria quizzed, “Where was this remorse when the economy was sinking? Where was this humility when the cedi was crashing and inflation was hitting the roof?”.
“I believe the people of Ghana including those in the NPP are wide awake. They won’t fall for this staged humility. What we are seeing is not transformation, but desperation,” he argued.
“So if I say he’s being a con artist, he’s being a con artist because he’s trying to deceive the NPP, deceive Ghanaians that he’s a changed man now. And for that matter, he’s apologized Ghana. Bawumia’s apology is a very dishonest apology.”
“If he’s really sorry, he should congratulate the likes of Ato Forson and His Excellency John Mahama, instead of pretending he alone has answers,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has claimed the NDC cannot point out one policy behind the appreciation of the cedi.
The former NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 election rejected ideas that the NDC deserves any credit for the recent gains of the cedi.
According to Dr Bawumia, the Mahama-led NDC government has not implemented a policy that could have contributed to the currency’s performance.
Speaking during an interaction with the Young Executive Forum (YEF) in London, Dr Bawumia detailed, “If you are to ask the NDC to point out exactly what policy they have implemented that has resulted in the appreciation of the cedi.
They cannot tell you one that has been implemented, not sort of talked about but actually implemented. They cannot tell you one such policy. They only passed their budget in March. They’ve not even issued any contracts and paid for anything, pretty much.
So you cannot ascribe what is happening to the currency to a policy that they have implemented. There’s no such policy that has been implemented that has had that impact yet,” he said.
