The Ashanti Regional NPP Communications Director, Paul Yandoh has charged NPP members to come in their numbers to accompany the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service today, Monday, May 26, 2025.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service today, Monday, May 26, 2025.
This comes on the back of a failed attempt by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service on Friday, May 23, 2025, storm the residence of Chairman Wontumi, to effect an arrest.
According to reports, the raid, which took place around 9:00 a.m. involved about 20 heavily armed officers who arrived in five vehicles.
Speaking on Asempa FM, after the attempted arrest Chairman Wontumi stated, “If your accounts get frozen how do you expect to survive and even eat? The sanctions President Mahama has imposed on me are more harsher than those the European Union imposed on Russia. I don’t have access to any account”.
“I will go to the police headquarters because they have brought me a letter. I haven’t received any letter from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB),” he added.
Speaking on Wontumi TV Paul Yandoh stated, “Monday God willing I am calling all NPP sympathisers, I am calling all NPP members, we are all going to Accra.
Buses are short here, but we have called for some from Accra, we have called some buses to come empty we are going to Accra. What is all this that is going on, if you lose an election does it mean that you have lost your right to be a citizen of this country?”, he asked.
Meanwhile, Kwame Adom Appiah, the lawyer for Wontumi has revealed he is ready to cooperate with the police.
Speaking to Citi News, he stated, “We are practicing democracy. Wontumi is not someone who can hide from the cameras. He is not someone who is going to run away. He has investments in Ghana, and he is not going to go anywhere. If you want him any time or day, you are going to get him. They have asked us to appear today, so we will go wherever we are asked to”.
“We have not done anything criminal, and we are not afraid of getting to them,” he added.
