According to Kwesi Pratt, Ghanaians are fed up with the former vice president’s lectures so he should put an end to it.

The veteran journalist noted that under Dr Bawumia the Ghana cedi value rose from 3.40 to a dollar to 16 cedis to a dollar.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Kwesi Pratt stated, “Are you sure it is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is speaking and he is saying those things? Under his watch Cedis’s value from 3.40 to a dollar to 16 cedis to a dollar does he know how to revive the cedi?

He was sitting down in power for 8 years, 8 long years at the end of the 8 years the value of the cedi was 17 to a dollar, what right does he have to be lecturing us about how to manage the value of the cedi?”

He continued, “Given his experience what right has he got to be lecturing us to be giving us these lectures and so on?

This politician what do they take us for they think we are all a bunch of…, he is giving lectures on how to stabilize the cedi after his performance, the performance of his government.

I can’t believe it. If his first month when they assume office is he not the same person who was telling us how he arrested the cedi and given the Key to the IGP you take these people seriously, he should stop these lectures we are fed up with these lectures”.

His comment comes after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stated the US dollar is on a decline globally  and that the NDC deserved no credit for the recent gains of the cedi.

Speaking during an interaction with the Young Executive Forum (YEF) in London, Dr Bawumia detailed, “They only passed their budget in March. They’ve not even issued any contracts and paid for anything, pretty much.

So you cannot ascribe what is happening to the currency to a policy that they have implemented. There’s no such policy that has been implemented that has had that impact yet,” he said.

Dr Bawumia further revealed that the NPP anticipated the impact of gold on the Ghanaian economy, he added, “For me, we had anticipated the impact of gold on this economy. I talked about it when we got into dire straits in 2022, and I said that when you look at Ghana being the largest gold producer in Africa, our reserves of gold at that time was 8.7 tons.

You look at the US, they have 8000 tons, and the UK has over 2000 tons. Same with France, and so it gives confidence in your currency. You don’t need to export to get gold, you need to export cocoa to get foreign exchange, timber, oil, you need to turn it abroad. But as for gold, you just need to dig it or pay for it with cedis. So it was a much easier way to do it.”
