A disturbing video has popped up of galamsey operators actively mining in homes at Bibiani Old Town, in the Western North Region.
In the viral video shared on X, some persons were captured digging and others gathering sand in a sack bag near a resident. An excavator was also spotted at the scene of the busily working.
The Mahama-led NDC government has renewed efforts against the operation of the illegal miners, these bold individuals are still engaging in their activities with no regard for its consequences and authorities.
President John Mahama in his May Day address stated his government is determined the gallant men of the Armed Forces and security services are up to the fight, and we will continue to score successes against the selfish companies.
“As far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, I say Aluta Continua”, he boldly added.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the viral video saying, “So the people in the hood, they’re watching them do this and later will hit the streets blaming leaders. Very funny”
“They will do all this nonsense with their chiefs and later come to blame the Government in power. How can you be this stupid and wicked”, another wrote.
One netizen also stated, “Don’t blame them much, first of all think about the years of neglects by every government that has been in power of the years post Kwame Nkrumah, and the lack of all those basic amenities to air their livelihoods better, no running pipe borne water, no companies to offer jobs, etc”.
Additionally, another netizen wrote, “So there is no police station in that area or assemblyman or DCEs.The President or minister must give orders from Accra before this is stopped?”
