A video has surfaced of some Makola market women showering praises on the Mayor of Accra for carrying out a massive decongestion exercise on Tuesday morning.
In the viral video shared on X, the market woman was captured showering praises on the Accra Mayor and his team as they embarked on the decongestion exercise.
However, some traders at the Tudu have expressed strong dissatisfaction after the AMA confiscated their goods for unlawful selling on pavements.
They argued that street vending is their sole means of livelihood and supports their children, so removing them was unfair.
They also claimed that the previous government had not treated them this way, but the current administration is already treating them poorly just a few months into its term.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) began its major decongestion exercise on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The AMA task forces, accompanied by the Ghana Police Service, carried out operations to dismantle makeshift stalls, and unauthorised kiosks, and remove vendors from pavements and roadsides across key parts of the Central Business District.
According to the AMA, the first phase of the exercise is focused on the AMA Head Office, Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and Opera Square through to Adabraka.
They revealed that the operation which will last for 2 weeks is to enforce city bylaws, ease congestion, and ensure the safe movement of both pedestrians and vehicles.
