Ella Esiman Nongo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adentan Municipal Assembly has revealed three people lost their lives following torrential rains that occurred across parts of Accra on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
She revealed that the fatalities occurred in different parts of the municipality, including Lakeside, Nanakrom, and New Legon.
Speaking on the CITI Breakfast show, Ella Esiman Nongo stated, “In Lakeside, we lost two people, including a four-year-old girl at Nanakrom and a gentleman around New Legon”
“Because people are building on waterways, there is no exit route for the water when it rains. That’s one of the main challenges we’re facing,” she explained.
Around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday nearly three hours of continuous rainfall caused flooding in some affected areas in Accra including, Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adenta-Dodowa, Tema, and other parts of the capital.
Meanwhile, Tabitha Ayillah, a member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vented her anger at the Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe and the Minister of Defense Omane Boamah.
According to Tabitha Ayillah, the Chairman of the anti-flood committee Stan Dogbe and Omana Boamah on social media yesterday talking about football amidst the flooding in the country.
She noted that Stan Dogbe and Omane Boamah showed no empathy which is sad and shameful.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Tabitha Ayillah stated, “Where is the empathy? From people who should be concerned about the livelihood of Ghanaians. I am saying this because the head Chairman of the anti-flood committee was set by the President who happened to be his deputy chief of staff Mr Stan Dogbe.
I think yesterday he and Omane Boamah who happens to be a minister of defence were on social media talking about football when people didn’t have a place to sleep people were virtually trying to get to their homes after going out probably to church to go to the marketplace”.
She added, “And you have this sensitive person playing a role in this administration talking about football on their handles, I just checked on their handles to see if they have at least issued a statement to empathy with people and to tell them that these are the plans we have for you I have seen none on their social media handles.
We saw them charade we saw them in an aircraft claiming they were doing a visibility study all whatever they were doing using taxpayers’ money and when people are in need they were on social media talking about football it is sad and shameful”.
