Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner has stated that suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo must fire the former Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame as her counsel.
The private legal practitioner noted that Gertrude Torkornoo’s choice of legal representation in the ongoing proceedings is tacky and could potentially damage her case.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News Martin Kpebu stated, “Chief Justice choice of Godfred Dame for this advocacy is tacky; it is not the best at all. Godfred Dame is on record to be suborning witnesses, coaching witnesses to go and lie to a court of law and all that”.
“So, you wonder why, of all the lawyers in Ghana, Chief Justice Torkornoo will pick Dame to represent her in this advocacy. It’s not on, She has to fire Dame”, he added.
Martin Kpebu added, “This decision could annoy some people who would otherwise support a public hearing”.
Meanwhile, Godfred Yeboah Dame has stated representing suspended Chief Justice Torkonoo is not a sign of NPP alignment.
According to Godfred Dame, his action is in line with his long-standing commitment to defending the Judiciary a stance he says has defined his career from the beginning.
Speaking on JOY FM, Godfred Dame stated, “It is about time that the proper things are stood for in this country and we cannot let people mislead the public and go uncorrected. I am making the point the action I have taken is consistent with all actions I have taken right from the first day I was appointed Attorney General.
What I am doing now is very much in tune and consistent with all I have stood for all my life. Indeed it is not about Justice Torkonoo at all it is about ensuring that this unwarranted attack on the judiciary is fought off.
All that is happening is a very calculated effort by the NDC government to attack the Judiciary and shape it in a manner they desire”, he added.
Godfred Dame further insisted that he had acted within the bounds of the law and rejected suggestions of illegality.
He added, “It is about time that good men in this country speak for what is righteous and what is right. If there is any Attorney-General who, right from his appointment, has stood up for the judiciary and spoken against attacks on it, it is myself.
It is not right and must be corrected. It is about time that proper things are stood for in this country. We cannot let people mislead the public and let it go uncorrected.”
