Kwabena Adu-Boahene the embattled former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) has fingered an opposition political party for receiving GHS 8.3 million of alleged money he is accused of stealing.
According to Adu Boahene’s letter, an opposition party received GHS 8.3 million to support election results collation.
Adu Boahene in his letter from EOCO custody stated, “I give you my highest assurances that Angela [wife] and I would never steal public funds, as is being deliberately and wickedly portrayed by the Attorney-General. In any case, how does one steal public funds in the manner being described by the Attorney-General without being flagged by the Auditor-General?
“Further, I give you my highest assurances that Angela [wife] and I would never take what does not belong to us, even if privately arranged. We are full of content with the modest blessings God has given us,” he wrote.
According to Adu Boahene, part of the 49 million cedis was spent to fund the 2020 and 2024 elections.
He alleged that a whopping 500000 dollars were used to purchase “communications equipment” for an opposition party, and also quoted GHC 7,285,000 was used for what he referred to as “elections special operations” for the 2020 general elections which covered the cost of logistics and payment of allowances.
Additionally, GHC 6,764,000 was paid for logistics and allowances for the 2024 December elections.
These monies were aimed to ensure the “stability of the nation and for peaceful polling”, Adu-Boahene stressed in his letter.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng and two others have been charged by the state for stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to the charge sheet Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife stole state funds to the tune of GHc 49 million.
The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, filed 11 charges against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and three others at the High Court in Accra.
He has since been remanded by an Accra High Court.
According to the court, Kwabena Adu-Boahene will be remanded for seven working days to enable the Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine to complete the preparation of its witness statements.
He is to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days.
