Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson has stated the acting Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has been cautioned, and no further action will be taken on the Agradaa dollar gift.
The Presidency indicated that no further action will be taken against Sammy Gyamfi following his public apology over a controversial incident.
According to him, President Mahama has decided to accept Sammy Gyamfi’s public apology and bring the matter to a close with a stern warning.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Jubilee House in Accra on May 14, he stated, “The Ag CEO of Goldbod has been cautioned, with no further action expected to be meted out to him,” he told journalists.
“In the last few days, there have been some matters relating to the ag chief executive officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Mr Sammy Sammy Gyamfi regarding a video that emerged of his interaction with Agradaa.
A day after that, the Chief of Staff summoned him to the Presidency to learn about what transpired. He indicated to the Chief of staff what his side of the story is on what we all saw. At the time, President Mahama was out of the country so he had to be briefed on the discussion held with Mr Sammy Gyamfi. The view is that the Presidency acknowledges Mr Sammy Gyamfi’s immediate expression of regret. So that apology has been taken on board,” Mr Ofosu added.
“You would recall that when President Mahama launched the Code of Conduct, he said that one of the remedies for potential breaches is a public apology. He also said one of the potential remedies was a caution from the highest level of government. The Chief of Staff cautioned him, having acknowledged the apology and impressed on him to act in ways that reflect public expectation.
In view of that, the Presidency does not believe that any further action ought to be taken beyond the apology and the caution. We value feedback, we are aware that Ghanaians expect high standards on the performance of our duties as public servants. We remain committed to meeting these high standards to ensure that we deliver the best of governance to our people. Mr Sammy Gyamfi has committed to ensuring that such an incident does to recur,” Mr Ofosu explained.
Sammy Gyamfi came under serious scrutiny after a video surfaced of him gifting fetish priestess now pastor Patricia Asiedua, commonly known as Nana Agradaa some huge sums of dollars.
In a viral video shared on social media platform X Sammy Gyamfi was spotted standing beside his white Range Rover, taking a photo with Nana Agradaa.
After a brief conversation between the two Sammy Gyamfi proceeded to sit in his car.
Sammy Gyamfi in the vehicle was seen counting several notes of US dollars.
Nana Agradaa upon seeing Sammy Gyamfi count the dollars insisted that he hand over all the notes instead of giving her just some.
She later grabbed all the money from his hands and, walking away, flaunted the huge sums of US dollars to bystanders, saying, “I have taken dollars from Sammy Gyamfi.”
Sammy Gyamfi has since issued a public apology for his indiscretion.
“Folks, I have taken notice of the wave of criticisms against my person in the last 24 hours. To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need.
I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he stated.
