The information gathered reveals Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) bank account was frozen over alleged financial misconduct involving GH¢11 million cash withdrawal and GH¢39 million securities Transfer.

According to the Ghana Chronicles, Wontumi withdrew GH¢11 million in cash, bought 365-day Government securities worth GH¢39 million, and transferred them to his company, Paradise Insurance Company.

Again, the construction company Hallmark Civil Engineering was paid GH¢50,871,811.52 million by ex-deputy Chief Executive of COCOBOD Emmanuel Ray Ankrah, against the explicit directive of the Chief of Staff.

Some weeks ago news broke that the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) froze all of Wontumi’s accounts.

The FIC, as per a document sighted is acting in accordance with Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020.

“Freezing of accounts – 1. Bernard Antwi Boasiako (a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi) 2. Akonta Mining 3. Hallmark Civil Engineering Limited.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has cried out on live TV over the Mahama-led government freezing his bank accounts.

According to Chairman Wontumi, he cannot even pay his children’s school fees and cannot buy food to eat.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, Chairman Wontumi cried out, “John Mahama it is becoming too many, you have frozen my account, and I cannot even pay my children’s school fees and can even buy food to eat, you are taking me through a lot. John Mahama what have Wontumi done, what have I done that you are coming after me?

We were born right here in Ghana and we will die in Ghana, what is the problem, first you made your minister hold a press conference about me on galamsey and I also responded that it is not true”.

He added, “Those galamsey areas, go and ask people in the town if they have seen me there before, no, I have a lease but I don’t even work there, the forest that you mention I don’t work there, I will not let anyone scare me. Take me to court you did not and now I have taken you to court. If you claim to have evidence let’s meet in court”.
