The information gathered suggests Kofi Adams the Minister of Sports and Recreation is likely to be the first minister to be reshuffled under the John Mahama-led NDC government.
According to reports, Kofi Adams could be reshuffled over his failure to release the budget for two of the Black Stars 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Chad and Madagascar.
It will be recalled President John Dramani Mahama directed that all monetary reports by various sports disciplines should be made public, stressing on the Black Stars‘ budget for their games.
However, the Black Stars won their two games against Madagascar and Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers some months ago yet Kofi Adams has not made the budget for the matches publicly available.
The minister in an interview with Channel One rejected calls for the immediate release of the budget allocated to the Black Stars for the two games.
Kofi Adams stated, “You will know it when the time comes. I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing? We have the next assignment in September; we have matches that we’re going to play. And we will surely make it public”.
It would be unfair to make a draft budget public, I’m not hiding it.
There’s no way I’m going to allow the Ghana Football Association to delay in presentation of a budget for the September round of matches,” he stated.
However, sports journalist Jerome Otchere has scolded Mi Kofi Adams for failing to disclose the Black Stars budget for the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Chad and Madagascar.
He alleged the sports minister of flouting President Mahama’s instruction to disclose the Black Stars budget for every game.
Speaking in an interview Jerome Otchere stated, “A lot of the things the sports minister has been saying contradict what the president said. The president instructed that Black Stars budgets should be made public, but the minister says he won’t make it public.
Now he says he can make the draft budget public, but nobody is asking for the draft budget. The president didn’t specify when to release the budget, but the minister is interpreting his words differently. From my perspective, Kofi Adams isn’t following the president’s instructions.”
Meanwhile, Ghanaians have been demanding transparency and accountability in the sports sector particularly of the Black Stars with calls for the government to disclose expenditure on the national football team.
Kofi Adams was named Sports Minister after earlier speculation that former Sports and Youth Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye was the preferred candidate.
