According to Godfred Dame, his action is in line with his long-standing commitment to defending the Judiciary a stance he says has defined his career from the beginning.

Speaking on JOY FM, Godfred Dame stated, “It is about time that the proper things are stood for in this country and we cannot let people mislead the public and go uncorrected. I am making the point the action I have taken is consistent with all actions I have taken right from the first day I was appointed Attorney General.

What I am doing now is very much in tune and consistent with all I have stood for all my life. Indeed it is not about Justice Torkonoo at all it is about ensuring that this unwarranted attack on the judiciary is fought off.

All that is happening is a very calculated effort by the NDC government to attack the Judiciary and shape it in a manner they desire”, he added.

Godfred Dame further insisted that he had acted within the bounds of the law and rejected suggestions of illegality.

He added, “It is about time that good men in this country speak for what is righteous and what is right. If there is any Attorney-General who, right from his appointment, has stood up for the judiciary and spoken against attacks on it, it is myself.

It is not right and must be corrected. It is about time that proper things are stood for in this country. We cannot let people mislead the public and let it go uncorrected.”

Meanwhile, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, the former Director of the Ghana School of Law has said the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo and her legal team are attempting to disrupt a lawful process.

According to Mr Ansa-Asare, the Chief Justice’s injunction undermines the Constitution.

He noted that the suspended Chief Justice and her legal team are merely barking as they cannot bite.
