Mahama’s return to the presidency has been marked by a flurry of activity, reforms, and policy rollouts, as his administration races to fulfill key campaign promises.
In the first 120 days, President Mahama has made substantial progress in governance, economy, education, and social welfare, with several pledges yet to be initiated.
Some notable fulfilled promises include:
Rollout of the Mahama Cares social protection framework
Free sanitary pad initiative for schoolgirls
Launch of the One Million Coders Programme to build digital skills among youth
Introduction of the Adwumawura Programme to promote job creation
Free tertiary education for persons with disabilities
Black Star Experience, a flagship tourism and cultural revival program
Restructuring of loss-making State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to ensure efficiency
Seed money for the Women’s Development Bank
Establishment of the Accelerated Export Development Council
Probing the Akosombo dam spillage, which affected thousands
Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament has boldly stated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 120 days in office has created two Ghana.
He claimed the NDC has created a Ghana for them and their party and a Ghana for the others they consider enemies.
According to Afenyo Markin, the 120 days of the NDC-led Mahama administration have been a disappointment and regret.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Afenyo Markin stated, “For me, it’s 120 days of disappointment and regret. The NDC in 120 days has created a two Ghana, a Ghana for them and their party and a Ghana for the others they consider enemies”.
The minority leader added, “First of all when they assumed office, they decided to terminate the employment of Ghanaians who had been employed in state institutions.
The original letter from the Chief of Staff said that those employed into the public and civil service after the December 7 elections if there were irregularities should have their employment terminated. I found that to be even defective. But what did we even see? There was a mass dismissal.”
He noted, “Worst of all, teachers and nurses who were employed and posted were also attacked. Haruna Iddrisu issued a statement about validating the teachers, but there is no evidence that those who were asked to go home have been reinstated”.
Afenyo Markin further fired shots at the NDC over their high-profile 24-hour economy pledge.
He emphasised that the Mahama government has so far failed to deliver jobs with the so-called one job, three shifts.
“They made us believe they would implement a ‘one-three-three’ model — one job, three shifts by creating an enabling environment for the private sector through incentives. What we see today is a complete lack of policy direction for the private sector,” Afenyo Markin added.
