Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko a former flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said the NPP has become a label stripped of the soul, values and principles.
He emphasised that the NPP a party that once shared ideas, values, and national purpose has deteriorated into a shattered organization captured by narrow interests.
In a statement titled “Teachings From Our Past: Things We Must Avoid,” Boakye Agyarko detailed the party is straying dangerously from its core principles.
“The NPP is at a critical crossroads. We have become a label—stripped of the soul, values, and principles that once bound us together.”
“Our internal contests have become battlegrounds instead of mechanisms to choose the best among us,” he said.
Boakye Agarko urged, “The idea of service has been replaced by the scramble for opportunity. We must move away from control to growing the party by empowering the rank and file”.
Meanwhile, the member of parliament for Okaikwei Central Parick Yaw Boamah has cried on live radio that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shifted its core values to being materialistic.
According to Parick Yaw Boamah, the NPP used to follow selfless people, but today, when someone acquires wealth they are praised by party members.
He asserted that Professor Adu Boahene was a university lecturer. Kufuor was not a millionaire when he came to power and Akufo-Addo was not a millionaire.
Speaking in an interview with Asaasepa Radio, Patrick Yaw Boamah stated, “We used to follow selfless people, but today when someone acquires wealth—regardless of how they came by it—they are praised by party members.
But we don’t build a party like this. Someone can be rich, and another poor. Professor Adu Boahene was a university lecturer. Kufuor was not a millionaire when he came to power. Akufo-Addo was not a millionaire”.
He added, “But when the party elects someone and gives them the blessing to lead, we all have a duty to support that individual. This is because we know that the person is going to work in line with the values and principles of the party based on our philosophy.
There has been a shift in the way we used to be loyal, dedicated, and committed to the true values of the party. This has left many party members materialistic, with their actions driven by monetary gain,” Patrick Yaw Boamah lamented.
Additionally, Prof. Ransford Gyampo the acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority has stated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must trace its roots back to its traditions to be taken seriously.
The former political science lecturer noted that the calibre of leaders the NPP has now cannot be compared to that of B.J. Da Rocha, Peter Ala Adjetey, and Haruna Eseku.
He emphasized that the NPP is an elite party rooted in constructive debate, not one that promotes young, inexperienced individuals to push agendas to insult people they are supposed to learn from.
