The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has lamented that the NPP gave John Mahama an advantage by electing its presidential candidate late in the 2024 election.
According to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP elected its presidential candidate in November and at that time John Mahama had an advantage by already touring the country.
Dr Bawumia also revealed the NPP plans to elect its 2028 presidential candidate by January.
Speaking to some members of the NPP, Dr Bawumia stated, “We elected our presidential candidate a bit late in the day. We elected our presidential candidate in November by that time Mahama who had been elected by the NDC much earlier had already toured the country, giving him an advantage and we had spent three years on an internal election that divided the party.
There was no time for reconciliation, I had to hurry to get into the field to begin the campaign because Mahama was already ahead. Reconciling people at all levels of the constituency was difficult and we didn’t have enough time to do that.
There were a lot of problems in the constituency involving the elections”.
He added, “Now, we are working on a proposal that, by January at the latest, all elections from polling stations to flagbearers will be completed, so we have three years to prepare for the 2028 elections and we have enough time to also do reconciliation”.
Meanwhile, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Arthur Kennedy has allegedly revealed that former president Akufo-Addo has withdrawn his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr Arthur Kennedy claimed that Akufo-Addo is no longer backing Dr Bawumia for a possible 2028 presidential run.
He asserted that his information was accurate, Dr. Kennedy said he preferred to let the former president speak for himself when the time was right, out of respect for him.
Speaking on TV3, when asked by Alferd Ocansey, “Are you saying on record that Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo is not supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumua anymore should he decide to contest the flagbearership in 2028”
Arthur Kennedy stated, “Yes, I am, Yes I do, I cannot tell you that but if it is not correct whoever is in the know can correct me and as events unfold we will see whether what I have just told you is true or not.
Out of respect to the former president, I will let him lay out his reasoning himself when he is ready”, he boldly added.
