The conviction comes years after his arrest for his involvement in an attack on Mr Michael Dela Agbo Klu in Atasemanso, Kumasi on 20th November 2021.

During the robbery, the blatant thief made away two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and a cash amount of GH¢1,500 before tragically shooting and killing the homeowner, Mr Klu.

He was subsequently nabbed in another foiled robbery attempt on 31st December 2021, at about 2:20 am with three others in the Atasemanso area.

Two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns were found during a check of the car.

Investigations revealed that Afriyie was the only person involved in Mr Klu’s robbery and murder.

The evidence resulted in his conviction even though he entered a not-guilty plea during the trial.

Afriyie was found guilty on two counts of robbery and one count of murder by a seven-member jury following a lengthy trial presided over by His Lordship Abdul Razak, ESQ.

The court handed down the decision on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Godwin Ahianyo, the Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Ashanti Region’s Head of Public Affairs of the Police Service praised the court’s decision and emphasised the police’s commitment to community safety.

DSP Ahianyo stated, “This conviction underscores our commitment to bringing violent criminals to justice and ensuring the safety of our citizens”.
