A senior lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato has boldly stated no one in NDC has the balls to tell President Mahama to fire Sammy Gyamfi.
Dr Zaato noted that Sammy Gyamfi is so big and important to the NDC that no one in the party has the balls to go out and tell the president to fire Sammy Gyamfi.
According to Dr Zaato, when President Mahama came into office he wanted to show Ghanaians he was different from Akufo-Addo in terms of accountability but his response to such a serious incident was merely to accept an apology and move on.
His comment comes after Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson stated the acting Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has been cautioned, and no further action will be taken on the Agradaa dollar gift.
The Presidency indicated that no further action will be taken against Sammy Gyamfi following his public apology over a controversial incident.
According to him, President Mahama has decided to accept Sammy Gyamfi’s public apology and bring the matter to a close with a stern warning.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Dr Zaato stated, “No matter how you look at these issues, no one in this country will say they are surprised by this development. If you look at the politics and who the person is, nobody will say he or she is surprised that the president took only the apology and let it go”.
“This man is so big, so important to the NDC that there is no one in the party who has the balls to go out and tell the president to fire Sammy Gyamfi,” he declared.
He further added, “There is nobody in the NDC who has the stature and the power like Sammy Gyamfi to go and tell the president to fire him. That is why when this issue happened, almost every government appointee fell in line. They were all whipped into line. Some of them went on national television, adding their support to him.
“The problem is this: when the president came to power, he wanted to establish that he was different from the former president. But how different can you claim to be when your response to such a serious incident is merely to accept an apology and move on?” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has stated the presidency has brought sanity to the controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift incident.
According to Tanko Computer, the acting CEO of the Goldbod Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift is dead and gone and must be allowed to die.
Dr Tanko Rashid Computer stated, “Sammy Gyamfi’s action was just out of generosity. The woman was pestering him, and Sammy is just a cheerful giver, that is how the young man is”.
“Sometimes, when someone is doing something like that, just watch where he is coming from. It could be that he might not have come from a rich background, so when he sees someone suffering, he wants to help the person.”
“Let us thank the presidency for bringing sanity into this matter. The matter is dead and gone, so let us all allow it to die,” he emphasised.
