Ghanaian blogger, Bongo Ideas has put up a touching post, attempting to insulate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from alleged falsehood and vilification suffered in the 4th Republic.
In a post on X, he intimated that the older generation of Ghanaians always made it a point to paint a gloomy picture of the NDC, making it unattractive to millennials and Gen Zs growing up.
This led to these two groups having a strong dislike for the NDC in their younger years.
“Growing up in Ghana, our parents taught us to hate Jerry John Rawlings and the NDC. We found the NDC unattractive, and Rawlings was labeled heartless, with chilling tales told about his “vindictive political exploits.” Our parents despised his leadership, and from birth, we millennials and Gen Z were conditioned to reject anything associated with the NDC because of his alleged atrocities.”
According to him, Ghanaian parents back in 2016 hated seeing President Mahama on television and would end up switching channels or turning off the television anytime he appeared on, increasing the hatred of millennials and Gen Zs for the NDC.
“Associating with the NDC felt like an unforgivable sin,” at the time he wrote.
“The NDC was falsely and maliciously portrayed to us as nation-wreckers, haters of the Akan tribe, and a group of bloodthirsty, uneducated hooligans. It was all lies,” he added.
Bongo Ideas says now, the millennials and Gen Zs have had the scaled fallen from their eyes, and have now seen through all the lies spewed by their parents. He described the NDC as now becoming a party which “millennials and Gen Z, once taught to loathe the party, find ourselves agreeing with its stance on issues.”
“Over time, independently minded individuals, unbound by our parents’ biases, saw the truth for ourselves. We witnessed the NDC’s rebranding, which brought fresh leadership and ideas. Slowly but steadily, our perceptions began to shift.”
With the paradigm shift, the youth of Ghana can now confidently align, or at least lean toward the NDC’s policies and ideologies.
He revealed the NPP is now suffering the fate the NDC suffered in the past, with millennials and Gen Zs now conditioning the next generation against the NPP.
“Now, millennials and Gen Z like me are conditioning Gen Z and Gen Alpha to despise anything NPP, just as our parents did with the NDC,” he added.
