Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said President John Dramani Mahama promised a 24-hour economy but is instead delivering a 24-hour intimidation.
The NPP director of communication asserted that holding people accountable should not be used as a cover-up for this government’s inefficiency.
In a post on X, Richard Ahiagbah wrote, “President Mahama and the NDC are employing diversionary tactics to deflect attention from the bread-and-butter issues of the day. They promised a 24-hour economy but are instead delivering 24-hour intimidation of political opponents”.
“Holding people accountable should not be used as a cover-up for this government’s inefficiency. Mr. President, where are the jobs? Ghanaians are asking,” he added.
His comments come on the back of Chairman Wontumi being arrested by EOCO following a visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Tuesday, May 27 shortly after leaving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
However, EOCO operatives intercepted him upon his exit.
EOCO has yet to issue an official statement on the Wontumi’s arrest.
The detailed nature of the investigations remains undisclosed, however, Wontumi’s legal team led by a former Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi revealed his client fell ill while being interrogated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
He however refused to provide the name or location of the medical facility where his client was receiving treatment.
Speaking to the media Andy Appiah Kubi stated, “I know where he is but I am not going to disclose the hospital. But all that I can say is that my client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.”
“We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue hopefully [Wednesday] if his condition improves. Otherwise, he will stay there until the doctors discharge him, then we come back to continue the interrogation,” he explained.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
