Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change has stated former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kennedy Agyapong will resign from the NPP.
The former NPP man Solomon Owusu asserted that in the same way Kennedy Agyapong withdrew from the NPP’s Thank You Tour he will ultimately resign from the party during the party’s primaries.
Speaking on Onue TV, Solomon Owusu stated, “Just as he has withdrawn from the Thank You Tour, he will do the same during the NPP flagbearer primary and will ultimately resign from the party. That is what will happen. I am telling you, he will withdraw from the race and quit the party when the flagbearer contest is held.
I say so because if someone stabbed your supporter and you withdrew from the party’s Thank You Tour, what will happen during the primary? When that election is held, someone could be shot or killed. What were his reasons for withdrawing from the tour? He said he could not continue to be part of it when blood had been spilt. So during the next primary, if someone is shot and blood is spilled, will Kennedy Agyapong remain in the race and stay in the party? He will surely quit”.
He further recalled when a similar incident happened to Alan Kyerematen.
“When a similar incident occurred during the NPP flagbearer race, where Alan Kyerematen’s supporter was physically assaulted and injured, Alan withdrew from the race. At that time, Kennedy Agyapong’s supporters said Alan was too proud and had withdrawn over a not-so-serious issue. When wrong is done to your colleague, don’t rejoice over it—you may be the next to suffer the same”, Solomon Owusu recalled.
Solomon Owusu’s comment comes on the back of Kennedy Agyapong pulled out of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thank You Tour following the stabbing of a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, he joined Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the sake of unity but all indication shows he is not wanted.
Kennedy Agyapong speaking to the media stated, “For unity’s sake, I felt it was important to join Dr Bawumia on his ‘Thank You’ tour. But from all indications, it’s very clear I’m not wanted.
“Because of yesterday’s events, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened. I don’t think I can adequately protect my team.”
“The reason I am withdrawing is mainly to protect my people. But we will regroup, and at the appropriate time, we will also do what we have to do to help the party and enhance my chances.”
“I have seen that some groups from Dr. Bawumia’s camp want me to speak, so they twist things. I want to plead with the NPP fraternity to desist from such one-sided politics—it will not help us”, he cautioned.
