Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong at the NPP’s Thank You Tour was not helping.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s presence on the tour led to some avoidable tensions.

He further commended the former lawmaker for his decision to withdraw from the party’s ongoing ‘Thank You Tour.’

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Richard Ahiagbah stated, “I think we should commend Kennedy Agyapong, in his statement, saying that in the interest of the party unity, he feels that removing himself from the tour will allow for the tour to achieve its original purpose, which was to thank the Ghanaian people for the confidence reposed in us. For the efforts that were put in, though we didn’t win.

“I think that his decision to withdraw, I think is a noble one. And the fact that his presence there is not helping, leading to some tensions that are avoidable, he’s no longer on the tour. I think we need to commend him for that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kennedy has cried out that anybody who supports him is under threat.

His comments come following the stabbing of a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thank You Tour.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he joined Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the sake of unity but all indication shows he is not wanted.

Speaking to the media he stated, “For unity’s sake, I felt it was important to join Dr Bawumia on his ‘Thank You’ tour. But from all indications, it’s very clear I’m not wanted.

“Because of yesterday’s events, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened. I don’t think I can adequately protect my team.”

“The reason I am withdrawing is mainly to protect my people. But we will regroup, and at the appropriate time, we will also do what we have to do to help the party and enhance my chances.”

“I have seen that some groups from Dr. Bawumia’s camp want me to speak, so they twist things. I want to plead with the NPP fraternity to desist from such one-sided politics—it will not help us”, he cautioned.

Mr Agyapong also used the opportunity to declare his political intentions: “I want everybody to know, every party member to know that I’m going to campaign and contest. Nobody can stop me from contesting for the flagbearer position,” he declared.
