Albert Nat Hyde commonly known as Bongo Ideas has reacted to some NPP supporters massing up the EOCO office after the arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Bongo Ideas noted that it’s only in Africa where the politician who steals from the people are protected by the same people.
He further detailed that Wontumi mined in the forest reserve and if found culpable should face the law.
In a post on X, Bongo Ideas wrote, “It’s only in Africa where the politician who steals from the people are protected by the same people. Chairman Wontumi mines in forest reserve and if find culpable should face the law. No party colour, no shouting, no burning of tyres will change that!”
Meanwhile, Wontumi’s lawyer and former Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi, has revealed his client fell ill while being interrogated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
He however refused to provide the name or location of the medical facility where his client was receiving treatment.
Speaking to the media Andy Appiah Kubi stated, “I know where he is but I am not going to disclose the hospital. But all that I can say is that my client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.”
“We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue hopefully [Wednesday] if his condition improves. Otherwise, he will stay there until the doctors discharge him, then we come back to continue the interrogation,” he explained.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Wontumi was arrested by EOCO following a visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Tuesday, May 27 shortly after leaving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
However, EOCO operatives intercepted him upon his exit.
EOCO has yet to issue an official statement on the Wontumi’s arrest.
The detailed nature of the investigations remains undisclosed, however, Wontumi’s legal team has yet to speak on the development.
