Stephen Amoah, a member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency has warned Ghanaians that in future if their child is defiled and they are poor, they are finished.
According to Stephen Amoah, those supposed to ensure justice are the ones being suspended.
He further called on Market women to return home early when they go to the market because there is no law protecting them.
Speaking at the ‘Save the Judiciary‘ demonstration, he stated, “The Constitution is no longer working, If you live in a country where the police, lawyers, and courts are not functioning, then you are unprotected.”
“Our mothers, rush home immediately after selling in the market. If anything happens to you, there is effectively no law to protect you,” he said.
He added, “When your child is defiled in the future, you’ll be finished if you don’t have money. We live in a country where if you are robbed, you cannot speak out.”
“Those who are supposed to ensure justice are the ones being suspended. They are facing reproach from this government.”
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to Stephen Amoah’s statement saying, “ “Make the country ungovernable” in full force. NPP never stands for Ghana aside themselves”.
“Ne kwasea if the constituition is no longer functioning will he have that freedom to go on a demo?”, another stated.
One more X user wrote, “Governer of Bank Ghana printed money which was beyond his threshold, he made a lot of loses , opposition by then had demonstrated that he should leaves his post what did he say? What did you do? Allow us to live in peace”.
“If the Constitution were truly dead, ur mouth wouldn’t open in protest & ur feet wouldn’t stand on the street without chains. The freedom you used to shout that it is broken proves that it still breathes. U can’t curse the roof over your head while it’s still keeping out the rain”, additionally another netizen wrote.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) together with some political parties are staging a demonstration today, Monday, May 5 against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by President John Dramani Mahama.
The NPP are walking through the principal streets of Accra together with the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), National Democratic Party (NDP), People’s National Party (PNP), Ghana Union Movement (GUM), among others.
According to the NPP, the National Democratic Congress’s attempt to remove the Chief Justice is calculated and dangerous interference in the judiciary.
The NPP’s planned demo comes on the back of President John Dramani Mahama suspending Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo following a prima facie case being determined against her by the Council of State.
The President consequently, established a committee in compliance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State with the following composition to inquire into the petitions which have been referred to them.
