Kennedy Agyapong a former NPP Flagbearer aspirant has bemoaned attempts by some factions in the New Patriotic Party to create further disaffection within the party by fueling fake narratives in response to the arrest of Chairman Wontumi.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, if the NPP does not take care and learn from the NDC, they will remain in opposition for a long time.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong detailed, “I am disappointed. I watched two videos, one of Alex Tetteh and another of a former Fomena Chairman. When issues like this arise, we should present a unified front. That is not the time to bring up personal problems or settle scores,” he said.
“If the NPP wants to win power, it must do so through unity. This is not the time to air grievances or pursue vendettas. We need to present a unified front,” he echoed.
Kennedy Agyapong added, “In the last Parliament, anytime Ato Forson went to court, NDC MPs would wear red in solidarity. They would attend the court hearings and still show up in Parliament. But the same cannot be said for the NPP”.
“All the factions in the NPP must come together. We need solidarity and peace. The internal politics is too much. If we don’t learn from the NDC, we will remain in opposition for a long time”, he warned.
Kennedy Agyapong’s comments come on the heels of Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team claiming he provided the CID critical for the arrest of Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking on Neat FM, Alex Kwaku Tetteh detailed, “When the CID got to Kumasi they called me and I was in Accra and I gave them the location of wherever he was.
I was the one who gave the location in Kumasi. Yes, I was the one who gave the location to Chairman Wontumi’s house in Kumasi, any corner that he is me I know of it. I was the one who disclosed it when they asked”.
He added, “We are all Ghanaians, I acted as a whistleblower and he made us know that if the government is coming to Kumasi he negotiate with the government, he claimed that before the president came to Kumasi from Mahama’s time he was the one that said it not me, National Security has to negotiate with him before, he claimed he was powerful than the Otumfuo.
When they called me I asked them to wait and I gave them 5 house locations. When they got there Wontumi called the Director of CID that they should give him up to Monday he would report himself”.
