Malik Basintale, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has quizzed if it is a crime for someone to own dollars in Ghana.
The Basintale boy asserted that if it is a crime to own dollars Ghana better convert all forex bureaus into chop bars.
According to Malik Basintale, no law in Ghana criminalizes the possession of dollars.
Speaking on TV3 New Day Malik Basintale stated, “ The fact remains there is no law criminalizes the possession of dollars. In the Cecilia Dapaah matter the crime was not in the possession of dollars the crime was the number of dollars she had juxtaposing it to her income.
If you think that Sammy Gyamfi should be prosecuted then even Cecilia Dapaah cannot make it to hell because she will go beyond prison and hellfire”.
His comments come on the heels of Sammy Gyamfi coming under serious scrutiny after a video surfaced of him gifting fetish priestess now pastor Patricia Asiedua, commonly known as Nana Agradaa some huge sums of dollars.
In a viral video shared on social media platform X Sammy Gyamfi was spotted standing beside his white Range Rover, taking a photo with Nana Agradaa.
After a brief conversation between the two Sammy Gyamfi proceeded to sit in his car.
Sammy Gyamfi in the vehicle was seen counting several notes of US dollars.
Nana Agradaa upon seeing Sammy Gyamfi count the dollars insisted that he hand over all the notes instead of giving her just some.
She later grabbed all the money from his hands and, walking away, flaunted the huge sums of US dollars to bystanders, saying, “I have taken dollars from Sammy Gyamfi.”
Meanwhile, the Minority caucus in Parliament demanded tough actions from President John Mahama against Sammy Gyamfi.
Dr Kabiru Tia Mahama addressing a press conference on Monday, May 12, 2025, stated, “The minority is calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi as acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. This goes against the Code of Conduct, the Forex Exchange Act, and the Currency Act”.
“Even though the Chief Justice has stated that ignorance of the law is no excuse, Sammy Gyamfi is not ignorant of the law. He understands the consequences of this action and should take responsibility.
We call for a full investigation into the source of the dollars displayed in the viral video”, he added.
Additionally, reports suggest Sammy Gyamfi has met with the Chief of Staff after he was summoned to answer questions following the widespread circulation of a video of him handing over an undisclosed amount of money, reportedly in US dollars, to Evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa.

There is no law that criminalizes the possession of dollars – @malik_basintale distinguishes between Sammy Gyamfi’s cash gift to Agradaa and the Cecilia Dapaah cash saga.#TV3NewDay pic.twitter.com/ivoJBqFi3a
