Ablakwa in opposition exposed then President Akufo-Addo’s use of private jets and vowed he would resign from government if an NDC President or Vice President ever used a private jet.

Ablakwa in a radio interview stated categorically, “I will resign from government if we come to power and our leader patronizes a private jet. I will resign. Why should I stay there? What I do is based on principle.

It is not personal. It’s not that I hate President Akufo-Addo or love him — that’s not the point. It’s about the principle, about protecting the public purse. …I will resign; I once resigned from the Appointments Committee”.

Meanwhile, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South has called on Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to resign as Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Ntim Fordjour reacting to the Vice President’s use of a chartered Vista private jet for his return to Ghana noted that Ablakwa hung himself with his own words and must do the noble thing and resign.

In an X post, he wrote, “Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa, Foreign Affairs Minister, do the noble thing and resign with immediate effect, consistent with your vow to resign immediately should your government engage a private jet for use by the President or Vice President.

While politics must not degenerate into populist stunts, you chose to ridicule the Presidency when in opposition, made public, Presidential travels that were done with private jets and demonized same. You got applause from your party folks. You got excited and in your euphoria, forgot that exigencies may require President or Vice President to travel on private jets from time to time in their legitimate official duties”.

“You hang yourself with your words! You were categorical in your vow. You dared Ghanaians that you will immediately resign as Minister if your Presidency used private jet in their regime.

Here you are. Our Vice President was returned graciously to Ghana to continue her duties, on a private jet paid for by Ghanaian tax payers. Ghanaians expect you to resign immediately from office as Foreign Affairs Minister to demonstrate that you’re a man of integrity, a man that can be trusted with his own words.

Be a man of PRINCIPLES and RESIGN!”, he added.

Ntim Fordjour however asserted that the use of private jets by the President or Vice President when required, is not a crime, nor is it out of place whenever a Presidential jet becomes unavailable.
