Bernard Antwi Boasiako commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has stated the love he has for the NPP is immense.
Chairman Wontumi revealed that he demonstrated his love for the NPP by giving the party GH¢1 billion to help organise the national congress in Tamale.
According to Wontumi, his decision to run for NPP’s National Chairman is based on his love for the NPP.
Speaking on Wontumi Radio he stated, “When I was the chairman for the Bosomtwi Constituency, I was sponsoring all the programmes of the youth wing of the party. Additionally, I was supporting the national leadership of the party with funds every month. Auntie Esther and others can attest to this.
“The love I have for this party is immense. I was supporting the national leadership of the party with money because we were in opposition. Even in 2015, after my constituency election, I gave all the remaining funds to the national leadership,” he said in the Twi dialect in an interview on Wontumi TV/Radio on May 15, 2025.
“After my election, I gave them [GH¢] 1 billion to help organise the national congress in Tamale. This is something I have been doing; I’m a very selfless and loving person”, he added.
Wontumi further stated nobody from the Ashanti Region has been NPP’s national chairman before.
According to Chairman Wontumi, the next NPP National Chairman must come from the Ashanti Region.
Wontumi added, “Nobody from the Ashanti Region has been national chairman before”
“They want someone who has been a constituency chairman and knows the ropes. I have been a regional chairman as well, and it has given me the experience. I belong to every society. I am the people’s chairman,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has officially announced his decision to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the NPP.
According to Chairman Wontumi, he had an encounter with God before he decided to contest for the position.
He asserted that he is hopeful that leading the party’s chairmanship position will see the party return to power in 2028, as Ghanaians wish.
Speaking on his station Wontumi TV, Chairman Wontumi stated, “I have spoken to God and I have pleaded with him, that when it is time for Chairman Wontumi, the NPP is an elephant when it’s time I will pick form in serving with respect to serve the NPP for us to return to power in 2028”.
“So I will say yes, I will contest for the NPP National Chairman when the time comes”, he boldly declared.
