Edudzi Tamekloe, the Director of Legal Services of the National Democratic Congress has revealed the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame was untouchable between 2021 and 2024.

According to him, Godfred Dame was simply untouchable when he was Attorney General with the Bar Council unable to take simple decisions when it comes to him

His comments come on the back of Godfred Dame being dragged to the General Legal Council for unprofessional conduct.

Reports suggest the Godfred Dame has been dragged to the General Legal Council by a private citizen, Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah regarding his claim unprofessionally in the Republic v. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson & Anor. Case.

The private citizen alleged that Godfred Dame violated the principles of the legal profession when he was allegedly caught on a leaked tape attempting to coerce Richard Jakpa, the 3rd accused in the case, to give evidence in a certain manner.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on May 24, Edudzi Tamakloe revealed, “Godfred Dame was untouchable between 2021 and 2024. He was untouchable.”

“The last Bar meeting when the Bar Council met and the question was whether or not Godfred should go to the Bar conference in Kumasi and whether he can deliver a speech, the Bar Council itself were divided.

In fact, some of the Bar Council members said no, he needed to apologise because as the leader of the Bar, what happened relative to the Richard Jakpa matter had brought so much opprobrium and public ridicule to the entire work of lawyers and that it offends specific rules of engagement.

So some Bar Council members said, in view of this, they will not allow him to give a speech at the conference. It was a split at the Council. I am telling you that during that period, Godfred was just untouchable”.

It will be recalled that Godfred Dame was overheard on a leaked video telling a suspect in the Ambulance purchase case, Richard Jakpa, to acquire excuse duty to enable him to absent himself from court.

Dame also told Mr Jakpa to lie against Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, together with whom he (Jakpa) had been accused of causing financial loss to the state.

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo further urged Dame to confess his sins to a Roman Father and ask for forgiveness.

Edudzi Tameklo added, “Godfred Awuah Dame, if he’s a Catholic, should get a Roman Father and possibly do a confession and ask for forgiveness. You don’t know the conspiracy that Godfred built to put Ato Forson in jail at all costs. It’s a painful episode and that should never happen again”.

“I don’t care whether you are NPP or NDC. Per our rules of engagement, we are supposed to provide representation to anybody, provided it does not offend the rules. That is our calling,” he added.
