Five major political parties have denied receiving support from former National Signals Bureau head Kwabena Adu Boahene, who claims to have spent over GH¢8 million on election logistics for opposition parties.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene the embattled former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) fingered an opposition political party for receiving GHS 8.3 million of alleged money he is accused of stealing.
According to Adu Boahene’s letter, an opposition party received GHS 8.3 million to support election results collation.
He alleged that a whopping 500000 dollars were used to purchase “communications equipment” for an opposition party, and also quoted GHC 7,285,000 was used for what he referred to as “elections special operations” for the 2020 general elections which covered the cost of logistics and payment of allowances.
Additionally, GHC 6,764,000 was paid for logistics and allowances for the 2024 December elections.
These monies were aimed to ensure the “stability of the nation and for peaceful polling”, Adu-Boahene stressed in his letter.
The political parties which have denied receiving such money include the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Ghana Union Movement and Liberty Party of Ghana.
Meanwhile, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) denied taking money from the National Signals Bureau.
Speaking on JOY News Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer stated, “On authority, I am telling you the NDC has nothing to do with what came out from that story. You see when they are talking about opposition they know the opposition they were talking about.
He knows it and everybody knows it, even those people they are referring to help them in their recent demonstrations, you know their partners that is what he was referring to and I am sure everybody would have seen that”.
He added, “No right-thinking person will believe my arch-opponent will give me resources to defeat him in an election does it make sense?
The governing NDC is challenging him to name specific parties, with the other political parties distancing themselves from the claim.
