It will be recalled that Samuel Dubik Mahama during the ECG missing container brouhaha boldly stated the containers cannot go missing and quizzed the Committee if they checked the GPHA terminal, the other holding terminals, and the Customs terminal.

According to Samuel Dubik Mahama, a container is not like a piece of paper that you fold and throw away and added that a container has a unique number.

Samuel Dubik Mahama emphasized, “Honestly, I want to say I believe strongly the containers are at the port. The containers are at the port, there are only two entities that have control of those containers—Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Ghana Customs.”

“A container cannot get missing. The Committee said it checked GPHA terminals. Did they go to the other holding terminals to check? Did they go to the Customs terminal to check?”

The spokesperson and Head of Communications for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Richmond Rockson has now revealed that Investigators have traced 2,637 unaccounted ECG containers at Tema Port.

According to Richmond Rockson,  a total of 2,637 previously unaccounted-for containers were consigned to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), far exceeding the initially reported 1,300.

He detailed that the probe led by committee comprising National Security, the Ministry of Transport, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and Customs, discovered the containers as of April 30, 2025.

As of April 30, 2025, the containers were found at the following locations:

860 at Meridian Port Services

1,237 at GPHA Terminals

272 already evacuated by National Security

194 at Amaris Terminal

20 at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal

He revealed that 2,437 containers had overstayed the 60-day clearance window and have incurred excessive demurrage charges.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Richmond Rockson stated, “The minister was receiving conflicting figures, so he ordered an investigation to determine the actual number of missing containers”.

“The investigation revealed that, in total, 2,637 containers were involved. Out of this, 2,583 are now confirmed to be in the possession of port authorities”, he added.
