John Jinapor, the Energy Minister has reassured Ghanaians that the ongoing challenges in the country’s power sector will be stable in June.
According to him, the erratic power supply should be stabilised by the end of May.
Speaking on TV3, John Jinapor stated, “What I get is that within the month of May, there will be major maintenance, and in June, there will be minimal maintenance. So, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should be seeing a stable power supply, but we should be servicing these plants.
He added, “These are plants that have gone far beyond their maximum operating hours. So, as a responsible government, we have to undertake the servicing.
“What I have realised is that if you hold them back for too long, you will compromise the integrity of the plant. So I want to appeal to Ghanaians that as we take this step, we will do everything within our power to reduce the impact, it is a necessary step,” he added.
However, the minority leader in parliament Alexander Afenyo Markin has mocked the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over the recent erratic power supply commonly known as dumsor.
According to Afenyo Markin, under John Mahama Dumsor pro max is unfolding.
Afenyo Markin asserted that when Ghanaians say let there be light, the NDC government says let there be darkness.
He asserted that with John Mahama in office Ghanaians now have a dumsor pro max.
Afenyo Markin is quoted by JOY NEWS to have stated, “When Ghanaians say let there be light, the NDC says let there be darkness. And now we have dumsor pro max”.
Meanwhile, the former vice president and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also mocked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over erratic power commonly known as dumsor.
According to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP for eight years in power was able to manage the power generation but the NDC in just four months is having a challenge.
He asserted that the NPP warned Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and erratic power commonly known as dumsor walked together but Ghanaians did not listen.
Speaking during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour”, Dr Bawumia stated, “Do you have a 24-hour economy with dumsor, we warned Ghanaians that as for the NDC, they and dumsor walk together. They walk together once they take one right foot like this dumsor also follows and then they are off working.
They are walking together and Ghanaians did not listen. Today it is obvious to everybody that we have a major problem something we managed for 8 years has become a challenge them in just four months”, he added.
